A Time Of Thanks

As we enter the Thanksgiving holiday, we become increasingly mindful of all that we have to be thankful for. Now, for the child of God, we know that it is not the only time of the year we are to be thankful. But we also know that if we are honest, we do tend to get into the feels of the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) and get more “thankful” this time of year. And that is perfectly fine, but the problem arises if that is the only time we give thanks to God for all He has done and will continue to do. It is essential for a Christian to make it a priority to pause and acknowledge just how good God is to us. Not just in the material sense, but in every aspect of our lives, especially spiritually.
Let’s look at Psalm 136, there are 26 verses and every one of them ends in the same words, “His mercy endureth forever.” The original meaning of that phrase is this: loyal, steadfast, and enduring love. That is what God has for us, all the time! And we most definitely should be thanking God all the time for the fact that His love never fails or ends. Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth in mercy.” Micah 7:18
What does God delight in? Mercy. Praise God for that fact! His love is never-ending and never-failing. In the song, One Thing Remains, part of the lyrics speak of God’s great love: “Your love never fails, it never gives up, it never runs out on me. In death, in life, I’m confident and covered by the power of your great love.”
Lastly, we must realize that for the Christian, giving thanks is not an option or just a suggestion. But rather a command we are giving, and one that we should willfully embrace and desire to do daily.
“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
